Armature Systems Appoints Jared Mendenhall as Field Chief Information Security Officer

Security has never been easy, and the challenges continue to grow. From navigating complex regulations, countering increasingly AI-enabled agentic threat actors, managing tight budgets, or aligning shifting business priorities with security best practice, security teams face a demanding and continuously evolving threat landscape to support and secure.

The good news is that the security industry continues to step up to this challenge. In the last few years alone, over $40 billion in venture capital has flowed into nearly 2,000 cybersecurity startups, placing it alongside AI and fintech as one of the fastest growing sectors. These investments have brought new tools, expertise, and resources to help security teams upgrade their defenses and stay nimble.

And to help navigate all of this, choosing the right partner is essential. Not just to unify the many components of a security program into a cohesive, effective security strategy, but also to have a trusted relationship with someone committed to your success.

That is one of the many reasons I am excited to join Armature Systems as their new Field Chief Information Security Officer.

My Background with Armature

Several years ago, I was tasked with building out the cyber security program for a then young startup Impossible Foods. I’ve leveraged many partners in the past, but Armature Systems was recommended to me by several people I trusted. 5 years later, Armature was a critical resource for us to build one of the top security programs in the food production space. They provided everything from VAR services and professional expertise, to a near fully automated Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution.

As one of Armature’s first MDR customers, I had the opportunity to help tune and build the platform, designing use cases from every tool and system we had in our portfolio, and align the service with the needs of our business operations. Several people thought I was crazy at the time for starting something from scratch. But I had trust in the relationship and Armature pulled through for us in spades, building a highly tailored and cost effective MDR, which was not practical to either build internally, or available to purchase commercially. Today, their MDR offering supports a growing number of biotech and other organizations, and continues to expand rapidly.

One of the other key drivers for me partnering with  Armature is the team culture. This isn’t a typical VC funded startup. Armature was built from the ground up, entirely organically, to be one of the best in the market, and that cultural grit and resolve translates into customer success.

What Lies Ahead

In my new role, I will report directly to Jacob Elziq, Armature’s CEO, to ensure security best practices are integrated into every aspect of the organization including product development, customer engagement, and market strategy. I will contribute to compliance and assurance efforts, support presales, and work closely with our services, development, and product teams.

But most importantly, I will partner with the many amazing customers, prospects, and vendors in our security community to help navigate the many challenges we face every day.
